The Thrive Programme is approximately a 6-8 session psychological training programme. It is usually done on a one to one basis, either in person or via skype and can also be delivered to groups.
The sessions last usually an hour and a half, focussing on beliefs, thinking styles, sense of power and control, self-esteem, social anxiety, building resilience, anxiety, language.
The aim of this unique and revolutionary programme, is to show the client how to build strong psychological foundations in the present. It is not counselling and is not about the past.
On average usually 6-8 sessions. The programme is tailored around individual need.
The programme works by getting right to the route of what makes YOU tick, and how your personality, limiting beliefs, and thinking styles influence and create your symptoms and problems. Once you learn how YOU create a lot of your own symptoms and are shown how to change, you want to put the effort in to make positive change.
The Thrive Programme works by building strong psychological foundations.
Think of your favourite building, for example Edinburgh Castle. In order for the castle to have stood the test of time between the elements and enemies (mainly the English), it was designed with very strong foundations. Your psychological foundations are the same. Think of your mind as like the castle, your psychological foundations need to be strong so they can deal with all that life throws at you. Essentially there are two main components of a person’s psychological functioning, their foundations and their mind-set.
The foundations are your sense of power and control in your life and your self-esteem.
Your mind-set is the extent to which you have the skills to help you manage your thinking, feelings and behaviour day-to-day.
Focussing on strengthening these two foundations are unique to The Thrive Programme. The stronger your foundations, the less effort required in managing your mind-set. Most therapies and interventions don’t get to the route by building strong psychological foundations, they merely teach you how to manage your mind-set. Think of it like waiting for fires to appear and merely using a fire-extinguisher to put the fire out. Why not learn how to not make fires in the first place with Thrive?

Limiting belief systems are a set of beliefs held by you, which have a very negative impact on your life, stopping you from really living the life you want to live. Thrive explains how these are created and maintained, so you fully understand how they developed. Limiting beliefs can have a damaging impact upon a person’s mental and physical health, relationships, stress levels, fears and anxieties, to name a few. Two main belief systems we look at in Thrive are sense of power and control and self-esteem, amongst others. The good news is limiting beliefs are not hard to change and Thrive will show you how.
Everyone has various styles of thinking. Most inventors need to be obsessive to drive their project along to its final design. Therapists need to be hypervigilant in order to pay close attention to their clients’ body language. These are just two examples. There are many others. The Thrive Programme looks at unhelpful thinking styles. Whereby due to stress and anxiety thinking styles have become exaggerated and unhelpful, and a person may feel powerless to change them. Thrive shows you how to change these.
By choosing The Thrive Programme, you are setting yourself on the right track to make the changes necessary, to really make the most of life. There is no magical fix, my job is not to do something to you. My job is to teach YOU how YOU can help YOU. Once you have these skills, they are with you for life. This is very empowering. When clients understand why they are behaving the way they are, and how to change that, they are happy to put the effort in to do this.
In order to get the most out of the programme and my sessions, you need to put the right amount of effort in to see progress. Persistent and continuous effort (PACE) are required to see the best results. The more effort you put in, the quicker and stronger the results.
This means reading what is required of you in-between sessions. Putting time aside every day to read what is required, giving yourself time to digest and process the information, before the next session. Thrive is like a jigsaw puzzle, so small manageable chunks of the workbook are given to you at a time, eventually making up the bigger picture.
Please bring your book with you to each session. Your book is very important. You are welcome to write on it, highlight sections, use post-it notes… whatever method helps you get the most out of the programme and learn the information.
Please complete all of the actions and exercises, they are all there to help you in achieve the changes you wish to, and are all research based.
Occasionally I will give you extra tasks to do in-between sessions, not mentioned in the book. This is to cement any knowledge further, and for your benefit.
Weekly sessions achieve the best results, as once clients’ become involved in the programme, the momentum grows. This is recommended rather than longer gaps between sessions. Experience has taught me that clients’ dipping in and out of sessions, don’t achieve as good results.
Also it is vital that you make Thrive a top priority in your life to see maximum benefit. Remember YOU are worth the effort.
Use the Thrive journal to help you anchor all of the tasks together in one place. The journal will really help you put yourself on the right track at the beginning of the day, putting YOU in the driving seat from the word go. The journal is also handy for other actions throughout the day.
Finally, please be on time for sessions. They are jam-packed with information, and for your benefit. The sessions are delivered in a fun and relaxed manner to put you at ease so you get the maximum learning experience.

As a licensed Thrive Consultant, I can help bring Thrive to life for you, cementing the principles of the programme. Sometimes clients may need parts of the programme explaining slightly differently for that ‘light-bulb’ moment to occur. Think of it like learning to drive. Using the book is the theory part, and the sessions are the practical part. Both parts are needed to practise and gain confidence, in order to pass your test. If you’re finding it hard to challenge yourself to make the changes you need, attending my sessions will give you support and explore any parts you are struggling with. It is important that you get the most out of the programme, seeing me will help you do that.
The appeal of hypnotherapy is entirely understandable. When our symptoms or worries feel overwhelming, who wouldn’t want to ‘be put to sleep’ to wake up with these completely resolved. This can be the case when the client has a minor symptom or limiting belief, and hypnosis is all they need to get over a small blip in their life.
However, all symptoms are a direct result of our thinking. Whether its anxiety disorders, OCD, fears and phobias, depression, BPAD, social anxiety, to name a few. Therefore a more empowering approach, is to look at and deal with the thinking creating the symptoms. Hypnosis does work on suggesting new thinking patterns. But without examining our psychological foundations behind that thinking, we run the risk of any progress being a temporary measure. Basically, Thrive goes back further than looking at thinking and symptoms. Our psychological foundations are key whether it’s our sense of power and control in our life or self-esteem. Once these have been explored and strengthened, our thinking alters and a lot of our symptoms are no longer created. This isn’t hard to change. Thrive teaches you why you react the way you do, and how to alter that. If you understand this about yourself, and how to fix it, you’re more lightly to put the effort in to change. The result is stable, predictable change, which hypnotherapy cannot necessarily provide.
Counselling can be helpful if you wish to talk through, or offload a problem. Sometimes speaking with a complete stranger, granted a professional stranger, can be beneficial without running the risk of worrying loved ones. However, the upside of this is that you may find yourself dredging up old ground, and creating negative emotions with no real answers or skills on how to change your life in the present.
Sometimes when people feel powerless to change the current life they are unhappy with, they think going back to the past will help resolve the present. It may give the person more insight into why they behaved the way they did, but it still doesn’t give them the skills and empowerment to make changes in the present. Working on our current psychological foundations, will help the here and now. Research has also shown that memory recall can vary, depending on how we wish to view ourselves in the present.
With Thrive, the focus is upon your thoughts TODAY. We are looking at the processes by which anxiety and symptoms are created: HOW you think about things, rather than the content. This explains why some days’ people may have their symptom and other days they do not – their lives may not have changed but their thinking has. The HERE and NOW are key.
Many clients have already tried CBT and NLP by the time they head to me. These therapies focus on managing and living with symptoms and problems. With Thrive 90% of the programme is about why you think the way you do, and what limiting beliefs you hold, and how these two components are holding you back and creating your symptoms. If you understand why you are creating issues and how to stop doing so, you put the effort into empowering yourself to change. Think of CBT and NLP as teaching you fire-fighting techniques, whilst Thrive teaches you how not to create fires in the first place. Thrive is a training programme and not therapy. It is not about someone else doing something for you or to you, but about YOU taking control of your life. It is so much more empowering to take control of your own problems, rather than someone else resolving them for you.

- Remember my phobia is just an unhelpful thinking error. It is fear of the fear itself. MICE CAN’T HARM ME. I have nothing to fear. I’m almost willing a mouse to appear so I can challenge myself.
- I can manage my eating without taking it to extreme measures – no need to starve or binge.
- When in danger of temptation, practice the DREAM technique. DETECT REWARD ESCAPE AMEND MAGNIFY.
- Change perspective. Stand back and see the bigger picture.
