Effective help for Bipolar-Affective-Disorder
Bipolar disorder which used to be also known as manic depression, is a relatively common condition affecting about every 1 in a hundred people in the population. People with bipolar disorder have episodes of mood swings which can vary in severity, but ultimately the mood swings disrupt the person’s quality of life.
Different definitions you might hear with Bipolar-affective-disorder.
|Mania||Also known as a high, is a state of abnormally elevated level of arousal. It can vary in degree.|
|Hypomania||A milder form of mania, with elation and hyperactivity present.|
|Psychosis||Where the person is out of touch with reality, and unlikely to be aware of their psychosis. Is sometimes present with mania.|
|Low mood||Feeling sad and unhappy to a degree that it has a minor effect on the quality of the sufferer’s life. All of society experience low mood.|
|Depression||Feeling sad, low and helpless to a degree that it has a sustained effect on the quality of the sufferer’s life effecting sleep, appetite and energy levels.|
Some people find their extremes of mood lean mainly one way or the other. Other people experience a mixed state of highs and lows at the same time. There is no set pattern. Most people are entirely stable between episodes, with moods naturally waxing and waning with the ups and downs of life.
Bipolar Disorder can affect anyone of any age from any background. The first signs of the condition mat be present in adolescence or later, after giving birth, or a major life event. Ultimately the common denominator is usually stress.
