Anxiety DisordersAnxiety can take various forms (see below for definitions).

It is a fearful state of apprehension, worry and doubt. It encompasses the thoughts, worries and feelings either behind or resulting from, a specific physical response or symptom,
(Kelly 2010)

Rest assured whatever form of anxiety you are currently suffering from, The Thrive Programme is geared around teaching you how to stop anxiety, by showing you how to build strong psychological foundations so that you simply no longer create it.

In just 6-8 weeks let me teach you how to help yourself banish limiting beliefs, gain more control of your life and identify and change any unhelpful thinking styles.

"Thrive is different, once I'd understood the concept and ideas of this programme it was a light bulb moment - my path to getting rid of the anxiety was suddenly very clear and very simple. I just wish i found Thrive sooner."

The Thrive Programme will teach you how to create strong beliefs in your sense of power and control over life. This can be divided into two domains. Your direct influence whereby you have self-belief in many outcomes of your life, and secondly coping skills of unexpected events, believing that you have the necessary resources to respond positively, cope and bounce back.  By looking at these two domains with me, I will teach YOU how to help YOURSELF feel empowered to make the necessary changes to your life.

anxiety-girlThrive will also show you how to build a good, strong internal self-esteem. Low self-esteem is just a set of negative beliefs. I will teach you how to create a new positive set of beliefs about yourself. A high self-esteem where you have faith in yourself and your achievements. Even if nobody pays you a compliment, its fine because YOU know YOU are good enough.

We will also look at not so much what you’re thinking, but your styles of thinking. When styles of thinking are unhelpful they cause anxiety and stress. It’s very easy to fix unhelpful thinking styles and liberating when YOU learn how YOU can stop this.

By building a strong sense of power and control and internal self-esteem YOU will no longer create anxiety. This is incredibly empowering as clients describe wanting to put the effort into change because unlike other approaches which focus on merely managing anxiety, Thrive shows YOU what is behind YOUR anxiety. When we understand what's behind our behaviour, we want to put the effort into change

By learning from me how to help YOURSELF Thrive, YOU will develop a ‘can-do’ attitude, build resilience skills, develop a growth-mindest and no longer create negative symptoms including anxiety.

What are different types of anxiety?

Sometimes it’s not clear-cut with anxiety as many symptoms can overlap, but here is a breakdown of specific conditions.

Generalised anxiety disorder GAD:
Overall feelings of anxiety which can’t be pinpointed to anything specific in a person’s life.

Obsessive compulsive disorder:
Obsessional thoughts require the sufferer to carry out compulsive behaviours as a way of trying to clamber back control of the obsession and life.

Post-traumatic stress disorder:
Experienced after a traumatic event or experience. Anxiety is just one of other symptoms.

Fears and phobias:
Are specific to one thing and out of proportion, interfering with the person’s ability to live a normal life.

Panic attacks:
Sudden and overwhelming feeling of panic which can leave the sufferer feeling as if they can’t breathe and may die with the severity of the symptoms.

What are the symptoms of anxiety?
  • restlessness
  • a sense of dread
  • feeling constantly "on edge"
  • difficulty concentrating
  • irritability
  • dizziness
  • tiredness
  • a noticeably strong, fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
  • muscle aches and tension
  • trembling or shaking
  • dry mouth
  • excessive sweating
  • shortness of breath
  • stomach ache and feeling sick
  • feeling you’re going mad, are not in control of your body or are detached from surroundings
  • headache
  • pins and needles
  • difficulty falling or staying asleep (insomnia)
How does anxiety differ from stress?

The term stress is used to describe the physiological reaction that occurs within your body in response to a perceived difficulty, threat or danger. Hundreds of years ago when we were cave people, we needed a stress response to alert us to danger against predators. This is known as the fight or flight response, in which we either defend ourselves against danger or we flee the scene. Hormones are released into the blood stream, so our organs and systems become their best selves to perform to the max. As we have adapted and grown over time, this stress response whilst still relevant isn’t as necessary so much in today’s world. Whilst we need a little stress to get us out of bed on a morning and to cross the road safely for example, it’s not as urgent a need a lot of the time. In folks who suffer from stress, a lot of the time their bodies are kicking into this response frequently and unnecessarily. When this happens regularly, it can drain the immune system causing allergies, colds and flu’s to name a few things. The Thrive Programme can help you to learn total emotional control so that you only respond with a stress reaction when in real danger.

Who can suffer from anxiety?

Anxiety can effect anyone of any age from any background. The stats say that one on ten people will experience anxiety at some point in their lives but I’d put money on it being a lot lower than that, to as much as one on three people. It is often present with other conditions such as depression, low self-esteem, IBS to name a few. It becomes a problem when it starts interfering with a person’s everyday activities. This is when it is necessary to seek out help.  Anxiety is just an unhelpful thinking style which the sufferer has learned and the good news is it can be unlearned with The Thrive Programme.

“Anxiety is a symptom created when the sufferer believes they cannot manage potential threats and dwell on their coping deficiencies,” (Bandura. 1988).
